Students Build, Auction Off Horse Made From Scrap Metal

Children from Abilene's New Horizons worked with a master welder to create a piece of art that's now up for auction.

The horse stands 10 feet tall and students named it "Wild Fire". The piece of art took about 3 months to make, with people working on it 3 to 4 hours a day. It's currently up for auction, and all the money raised will benefit local children.

The welder that helped the kids put the horse together says it was a healing experience for the children.

The current bid on the horse is $800.

For more information on how you can place a bid visit the Wild Fire Auction website.

"Wildfire" Horse Sculpture built by the kids at New Horizons

"Wildfire" makes a debut in Abilene

"Wildfire" was welded by Hoss and the children at New Horizons' Audrey Grace House. The children worked with Terry "Hoss" Savoie for a month welding "Wildfire" out of scrap metal. He stands almost 10' tall and is 12' from the end of his tail to his outstretched hooves. "Wildfire" was made for the Bilbo Golf Tournament Auction being held April 29th at the Round Building at the Taylor County Expo Center.

Bids are being accepted online now until April 26th at www.bilbogolf.com/horse.

New Horizons specializes in the treatment of traumatized and abused children by offering hope and healing in great expectation of a better future. New Horizons' mission is to provide an environment where children, families and staff are able to heal and grow through caring relationships, unconditional love and acceptance.
