'The Ranch' - Goldthwaite, Texas

Who We Are

New Horizons' mission is to provide an environment where children and families are able to heal and grow through caring relationships, unconditional love and acceptance.

New Horizons first began in 1971 as a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed boys on 150 acres in Goldthwaite, TX. New Horizons began as an outgrowth of Meridell Achievement Center. A number of boys at the Center had gone camping, on the land that is presently "The Ranch" in Goldthwaite, and had been so successful in the more open, individualistic environment that a decision was made to build a permanent residence. Because of New Horizons' commitment to creating a family environment, girls were introduced to the program in 1978.

"The miracle of children is that we just don’t know how they will change or who they will become.”

Known as The Ranch, our treatment center is home to 56 children, ages 5 to 17, who have been abused and neglected. The majority of the children at The Ranch are classified on the highest service levels the state assigns to foster children, Specialized and Intensive.
The Ranch has an accredited charter school, a horse barn and riding arena, a swimming pool, playgrounds, campus lakes, football and baseball fields, a tennis court, an indoor gym, three homes, and a chapel/family center. We employ a 24-hour integrated treatment team approach that combines therapy and services carefully designed to meet each child's individual treatment needs. Treatment is directed by a professional team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical therapists, social workers, state accredited special education teachers, and trained direct care specialists. Treatment usually lasts between 12 to 16 months.

The children who are placed in our residential treatment centers have routinely been in foster homes and other basic care facilities, but their anger and hurt is more profound than many families can handle. At New Horizons, we seek to create a positive, healthy relationship with each child in the hopes of healing their past hurts. Through doing this, we can set children on a path of hope to a better future in becoming a productive citizen of society.
